Housing Market

Tanglewood is a residential neighborhood located in the Uptown Houston Area.  The area was developed in the 1950s by the Tanglewood Corporation and today is operated by the Tanglewood Homeowners Association.  Although many of the homes date from the 1950s and 1960s, the real estate market is very active here. There is a move to replace many of the original homes in the neighborhood with larger and costlier custom built homes.  Home values range from $500,000 homes to $6 million homes.  Land prices have essentially doubled in the last three years. The lots are large and well kept, the security measures are significant and the sense of community remains.

Things to Do

The typical mix of cultural and recreational activities are available in the neighborhood of Tanglewood, but residents also have easy access to transportation linking them to other parts of Houston with all the associated activities.  Parks and bike paths allow the user to get away from urban business, while tennis and swimming facilities allows for continued recreational opportunities. Nearby sports complexes provide the resident to follow any of the major professional teams associated with Houston.

Attractions

There are many things to see and things to do in Houston and in Tanglewood.  Tours of theHouston Zoo and any of the numerous museums, both historical and cultural are just a few of the many attractions found in Houston.  Contemporary theater, dance and arts can be found within close proximity of the oversized dwellings in the suburban neighborhoods. You can view the Houston Ballet or the Symphony as easily to visit a museum.

Tanglewood Shopping

For an area that grew from 1200 mid to low income family units to many times that at present, it's hard to imagine what the area was like with smaller shopping sites and more community oriented businesses.  The Tanglewood neighborhood seems more flagrantly old-fashioned but it is rapidly being overgrown with more and more upscale shopping centers.  The shopping at Tanglewood is a different type than you may have been accustomed to in the past. It is definitely upscale with the location causing the premium price shopkeepers must pay in order to make the businesses part of this elite shopping area.
