About Houston Museum District

Housing Market

Close to Houston's downtown and even closer to the Texas Medical Center, the Museum District is one of Houston's strongest housing markets.  It is the location for Il Palazzo, Robinhood, Mosaic and three other mid to high-rise projects begun in 2007.  The most significant increase though, has been in the replacement of obsolete or redundant housing with new condos and lofts.  Over 2000 new or converted condo units have been added to the district inventory within the last two years. Above average income and population growth makes Houston's Museum District ideal for creative housing that allows for live, work and play in a relatively small geographic area. The housing market is strong throughout Houston with the average single family home selling at more than $300,000 and the typical condo pegged at nearly $180,000.

Things to do

Houston's Museum District is the epicenter of culture in the city with the emphasis on cultural and artistic interests such as the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston, The Houston Zoo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Holocaust Museum of Houston. The Houston Garden Center displays many of the native flowers from the Houston area and many exotic plants as well. If your interests lean more toward outdoor recreational activities you can enjoy the jogging trails at Hermann Park with its Miller Outdoor Theater.  You can also check out the activities at Reliant Stadium and at nearby Buffalo Bayou.

Restaurants

Because the Museum District lies at the heart of Houston and the transportation options are second to none, those who dwell at city center have access to all the best in regional and international dining.  Seafood specialties are to be expected, due to the proximity to the Gulf, but you can also find dozens of other specialties ranging from proudly Tex-Mex to the most intimate of continental cuisine sites.  Top 10 dining spots in Houston are a mix of Italian, Mexican, steakhouse and fusion to satisfy the most eclectic taste.

Nightlife

Dozens of bars and nightclubs lie within the sphere designated as the Museum District. When you go out at night in this city, you can enjoy karaoke or an Irish pub.  Several area restaurants include live music and many of the bars feature local and regional bands in performance.  If you like to dance, you can enjoy live entertainment locations here or in a concert venue.

Shopping

With thousands of young urban professionals living in Museum District housing, you have the choice of walking distance shopping or taking the METRO to one or more of the shopping centers that dot the city of Houston. The heart of the city favors small boutiques, specialty shops, bars, restaurants and accessories. Shoes and leather goods shops sit side by side with coffee shops and clothing boutiques. Houston is a city of malls and the Museum District is no exception.  The shops at Houston Center are one example. Dozens, even hundreds of specialty boutiques anchored by one or two chains is the typical arrangement.
